This policy is for standardbred colts, geldings & fillies from when they are starting
out training for the race track through until retirement nd covers.
- Death and destruction on humane grounds due to accident, illness or disease.

- Theft and unlawful removal
- In transit anywhere within NZ and Australia including transits between
- Removal & Disposal costs up to $500
- 90 day extension clause
- Operations clause - all operations must be advised to Underwriters prior to it being
carried out
- Wobbler syndrome
Optional extensions to covers
- If it is a well bred colt and considered to be a breeding prospect and has not been
gelded by the age of 3 years then you should consider extending the policy to include
Stallion Permanent Disability cover.
- 12 month extension – an essential extension for successful racehorses.
What We Pay
For death or humane destruction from accident, illness or disease
if the Insured horse dies or incurs an injury or is afflicted with an excessively
painful disease and the suffering of the horse is incurable and so excessive that
destruction is imperative for humane reasons - fair market value of the horse immediately
prior to the accident or first manifestation of the illness or disease giving rise
to the loss, but will not exceed sum insured specified in the Schedule.
We will pay the fair market value at the time of loss or injury or sum insured on
the schedule which ever is the less.
Other limits on what we will pay
Major Veterinary Costs - incurred by the insured for the treatment of the insured
horse
we will pay up to a maximum of $10,000 or 50% of the Sum Insured each and every
accident or illness and in the total over one annual period of insurance. The total
costs incurred by each & every accident or illness is subject to an excess of $1,000
or 10% of Sum Insured which ever is the greater to a maximum of $2,000. Conditions
do apply
Stallion Permanent Disability – fair market value of the stallion immediately
prior to the accident or first manifestation of the illness or disease giving rise
to the loss, but will not exceed the sum insured specified in the Schedule.
Veterinary requirements:
Sum insured $1 - $49,999
Declaration of health unless the horse has been sick or injured during past 12 months
in which case a veterinary certificate is required.
Sum insured $50,000 and over –
2 Stage Veterinary Certificate
Important for Colts
If it is a colt and going to be gelded then Underwriters require 24 hours notice.
