This policy is designed for equestrian, sport & pleasure horses aged between
3 – 10 years and covers.
- Death and destruction on humane grounds due to accident or illness.
- Permanent Loss of Use due to accident, illness or disease - covers the horse if horse becomes permanently incapable of performing the tasks for which it is insured.
- Major Veterinary Costs
- Theft and unlawful removal
- In transit within NZ
- Removal & Disposal costs of up to $500

We cover all disciplines and for your ease we have divided them into the following classes:
Class 1: Showing, Hacking, Pony Club Activities, Breeding, Schooling. Pleasure, Farm work
Class 2: Dressage, Endurance, Western Riding, Driving, Showjumping, Hunting
Class 3: 3 Day Eventing
On Special Application:
- Advance Grand Prix Eventing, Showjumping and Dressage.
- We regret we are unable to offer this extension for miniature horses and polo ponies.
What We Pay:
For death or humane destruction from accident, illness or disease
If the Insured horse dies or incurs an injury or is afflicted with an excessively painful disease and the suffering of the horse is incurable and so excessive that destruction is imperative for humane reasons - We will pay the sum insured which was agreed at the commencement of the policy or the agreed sum insured if amended during of the period of insurance as shown on your schedule.
Other limits on what we will pay
Permanent Loss of Use in the event of a claim you have 2 choices either
- Keep the horse in retirement and receive 50% of the sum insured to a maximum of $10,000
- Choose to put the horse down and receive 75% of the sum insured to a maximum of $15,000
Major Veterinary Costs - incurred by the insured for the treatment of the insured horse we will pay up to a maximum of $10,000 or 50% of the Sum Insured each and every accident or illness and in the total over one annual period of insurance. The total costs incurred by each & every accident or illness is subject to an excess of $1,000 or 10% of Sum Insured which ever is the greater to a maximum of $2,000. Conditions do apply
Veterinary requirements:
A satisfactory 5 Stage Veterinary Certificate is required to incept the cover
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE ARE ADVISED IMMEDIATELY SHOULD YOUR HORSE FALL ILL OR SUSTAIN ANY INJURY
